I have been so busy! I try to post as much as I can but there aren’t enough hours in the day!
Thursday morning the girls went to go see The Hangover 2 at a theatre right by class. In France the movie is called “Very Bad Trip 2”. It was really funny and nice to relax right before class. I am more comfortable in class and the professor is really nice. He teaches grad students as well as Ph.D. students; we are lucky to have him!
Thursday night we headed to the Eiffel Tower with some blankets and wine! It was so pretty seeing the Eiffel Tower lit up. However, the vendors trying to sell souvenirs were almost annoying as a bee. It was absolutely hilarious seeing them sprint when a cop on a bike began to ride through and chase after them. We headed home around 11:00 because we had a big day ahead of us.
Friday morning we had to meet our program directors at a metro stop at 8:30, way too early. From there we took a bus to Fontainebleau and saw the château and garden. It was really pretty but extremely hot. It also wasn’t helping that there was a good amount of wind and I wore a dress. I think the little European school kids were laughing at me but they got a free anatomy lesson, you are welcome. When we were done with the first château we had a three-course meal at a nearby restaurant. It was delicious! The meal started out with a salad that had tomatoes, green beans and carrots. The next part I couldn’t believe I liked/ate. I ate duck. It wasn’t that bad once I got over hearing quacking noises in my head. We finished the meal with profiteroles and espresso. We were all so stuffed. We got back on the bus and headed toward the second château. The second one wasn’t as impressive on the inside but the outside was amazing. By the end of the day we were châteaued out. The entire group slept on the way home and we got ready for the night out. However, it was the biggest fail ever. The club we wanted to go to didn’t open until 1 and the cover was 13 Euros.
Saturday we slept in a bit and Gabi, Shannon, Lauren, Ashley, Taylor and me headed to Montmarte, the highest point in Paris. At the top there was a church we went into and it was so pretty inside. We shopped around for a bit and headed down to the Moulin Rouge. It was pretty sketchy on the walk there and men here really don’t respect women at all. The key is to not look at anyone and never smile. We took a few quick pictures in front of the Moulin Rouge and then hopped back on the metro. The modes of transportation are so hot and smelly. On the way getting on to the metro, I saw three police pin up an Italian guy on the wall. It was killing me I didn’t know what he did but I thought I would let the fuzz take care of it. We continued to shop around in a very nice area where we couldn’t really afford anything. (If anyone would like to send the child a check I will bring you back a souvenir!...just kidding but seriously) We got dinner and drinks at The Frog and the Princess. The waitresses remembered us and we chatted with them a bit.
When we got home we were exhausted but began to look up some possible bars to go to for the night. Lauren found a bar in her Paris book and it is one of the 10 best bars in Paris and by the end of the night we knew why. The bar was called “Coolin” and it was Irish, perfect! I went to the bar and ordered a Carlsberg but they didn’t have it last night so I got a Kronenbourg, it was just as good. Two boys from London started talking to me and Shannon and they bought us a drink (don’t worry Doll I literally went to the bar and grabbed it myself from the bartender, I didn’t want to spend another 7.40 euro for a brew-ha-ha). The bar was a little slow at the beginning but then the DJ put on “Getting Jiggy With It” and our group got up immediately. Next thing we knew the entire bar was dancing to the Spice Girls, Beyonce’s “Single Ladies” and Lady Gaga. It was one of the best nights so far and we all had so much fun!
I am so happy I came on this trip. I love everyone in the group. There are so many personalities, backgrounds and interests. I can’t believe it has already been almost two weeks! I am having a great time and am excited for what is to come ☺
the fuzz...gets me every time!
ReplyDeleteSo funny that they are calling the Hangover 2 a different name in Europe!
It's definitely fun to go to bars and get to know the people who work there - kind of feels like you have "a place" that you know will always be fun.
And the Eiffel Tower, blankets and wine - who could ask for a better summer day!
Looking forward to the next recap :)
Love,
Kath
