It was our last couple of days together and we all could not believe how quick these past six weeks has gone! We would all be together for our last weekend and we were looking forward to enjoying Paris one last time!
Thursday night we went back to the nightclub, Duplex. We were all ready to have a good time and we knew this place wouldn’t fail us. On the walk in I saw a Parisian girl wearing the same dress as me but in white, how rude! We have been describing the club as a “time warp.” One minute we are walking in at midnight and next thing we know we are catching the metro at 5 a.m. to be accompanied by the sun and Parisians headed to work. Everyone had a great night and it was a successful last all-nighter.
Despite having a great time the night before, the morning was not so pleasant. We had to be up for an inspection of our rooms by the housing coordinator for our program. Little did we know this inspection consisted of a walk into the hall of our apartment and the woman confirming it was okay with a glance that wouldn’t have even been able to spot a single thing! I was livid to say the least.
I was so exhausted and barely functioning without sleep (so dramatic but seriously). A group of us were catching a train to Givernet to see Monet’s house and garden. The train ride was not very long at all but some of the characters as well as animals were quite a sight. We spent a couple of hours going inside the house and walking around the garden, it was so beautiful! And how ideal that I wore a floral top that was perfect for the occasion!
We all went to nap when we got home and intended on having a relaxing night. Almost all of us headed to the Seine and we had an even better view this time in my perspective! In addition to some new surroundings, we had a front row seat to some clown who could not handle his alcohol and definitely had too much to drink. We began to scope out the situation and it gradually became worse as time went on. Many people were going over and trying to help and after awhile an ambulance finally arrived. It was really scary but we decided it was best not to get involved even though I was dying to know details.
Saturday morning we were able to sleep in and we definitely took advantage! Plus we needed our sleep for the bar tour that we would be having later in the day! We all purchased Paris shirts that we decorated and cut. We were some of our favorite bars during our time in Paris as well as a few new ones.
The first stop was “The Fifth Bar.” We were the only people in the bar during our time spent there and it was perfect! The bartender, Byron, was playing American music for us as well as making all of our favorite drinks. Byron, the pyro, would light the bar on fire during jager bombs that quickly became the group’s desired drink. Is lighting my counter on fire next year in my apartment safe? Byron was thrilled with the sales coming in so early in the day and awarded us all with a free drink. Thanks baby boy!
Next we were headed to “The Frog.” We stopped there for dinner and some drinks. We received dirty looks everywhere we went and by this time we were more than accustomed to this. Following “The Frog” was a bar called “Pop In.” We really took the name seriously and only popped in for a short while. Our final destination would be “Café Oz” that we had enjoyed going to our first weekend in Paris. The bar tour was so much fun and a great way to wrap up our weekend!
Sunday was dedicated to procrastination and preparation. We had our art final the following day. The more I looked at the material the more I didn’t know and had vague recollection of visiting some of the museums. Nevertheless, we took the final Monday morning with some doing better than others. My answers are never that detailed or correct for that matter but I think the professor got me. However, I will spend money on an international call depending if I need to persuade her to change my grade. We went souvenir shopping and picked up some last minute gifts on Monday.
As for the night, we headed back to “The Fifth Bar” to celebrate the Fourth of July! The bar was not the same scene as our previous time. It was extremely packed but Byron was looking out for his loyal customers. We all had a fun night despite spending this day celebrating in the United States.
Tuesday was our last class with Professor Ettington. She was such a sweetheart and we all enjoyed her. Tuesday night we were being taken out to a seafood restaurant by the program. We had a three-course meal that was interesting. I ordered shrimp for the starter and was a bit perturbed when I saw the head was still kickin’. I am not a huge fan of seafood and had never peeled a shrimp. In my head I was thinking, “Doll, where you at?” It went okay but I did not particularly like all the effort just to get to the shrimp! For the main dish I ordered the vegetarian plate and it was actually pretty good. The dessert I choose was a pear crepe that had alcohol inside. The alcohol was a bit too potent for my liking and I wasn’t trying to get wild off my dessert. Yet, I wish I had taken advantage of my crepe because I was unknowingly making a speech at the end of the dinner. I love to talk but for some reason I was at a loss of words, weird I know! I searched my brain for some sentimental words but I couldn’t find them or any jokes. Epic fail. We all spent time together after dinner and enjoyed our last night together in Paris.
Gabi, Jen, and I left for the airport this morning and everything went very smoothly for the most part. There was some confusion when an airport worker was checking me in and asked, “Where did I come from?” I was thinking, “Roseann Noonan, Broomall, Pennsylvania, The Citadines in the 14th district, America, Paris, what was the right answer?” The next question was, “Who packed your bag?” What is with this country?
The next debacle was doing the tax return for some purchases I made. Of course I am behind this woman who says, “Do you speak English?” Next thing I know we are engaged in a twenty minute conversation about her daughter, her travels, cooking lessons, Europe, expenses, literally the whole nine-yards. I couldn’t help but stare and wonder, “Why do you have cotton balls in your ears?” She thought I was on business. Take a look at me lady; I look like I am 11. I was thrilled to hear we were on the same flight to Philadelphia and she reassured me that, “I will see on the flight!” Sorry Gabi, I am no longer able to sit with you because my new middle-aged friend and me need to talk about recipes and life lessons for the next 8.5 hours. I am convinced there is a post-it on my forehead proclaiming, “Yes I will listen to you and would love to hear everything about your life!”
Currently I am on the plan with about an hour and a half left to go. This is so crazy I am on my way home!

I cannot thank you enough for an experience and memory that I will carry with me forever. It is amazing that we didn’t know each other yet we were ready to travel around together and create new friendships. As I said, we may all have different personalities but I think the diversity helped each of us to grow as a person and respect people for who they are, how they see things, and who they choose to be. I have learned so much from each one of you and my time spent in Paris would not be the same without you. Most of us will probably not have the opportunity to do something similar to this and I think we all took advantage of our time in Paris. I am happy you have all become my good friends and I look forward to seeing you at Penn State! Thanks for a great six weeks. We did it! Bonjour, baguette, fromage, merci!

Sorry for the delay...
Barcelona took a little time to unwind but before we knew it, we were sitting in art class Monday. We started off class talking about Haussman and visiting Printemps, a famous French department store. Finally, the professor has gotten something right! Our professor informed us that Paris’ semi-annual sale would be beginning Wednesday (I made note to completely clear my schedule). Following class, three girls and myself went to a café for lunch and had some crepes for dessert! We then went to the Pompidou, which is a modern art museum. The items I saw were reminiscent of projects I had made for Mother’s Day or an ornament I handcrafted for the Christmas tree. This is art? Nevertheless there were some things that did interest me.
Tuesday would be our first class with our new management professor. This part of the course will be focusing on strategy with more business technical terms that I am sure I will not know. The first class was going pretty well until the professor said, “Where is Regina?” Luckily she was only looking for a comment in regard to public relations.
My roommate, Gabi, had learned about a music festival taking place Tuesday from a newsletter from our program. We were headed out that night in hopes to enjoy the music festival experience! It seemed like many Parisians take part in the music festival and it reminded me of a somewhat “Paris State Patty’s Day.” Little did I know that I would be performing with the band at our favorite Tuesday spot, The Frog and Princess. I had gone up to the guitar player asking if they needed a backup singer. I was being completely sarcastic but next thing I knew they were asking me to pick a song on the iPad. Somehow “I Will Survive” was selected and I was singing a solo with not only my friends watching but some Parisians as well. I wasn’t sure of some of the lyrics so I made them up as I went along with some new French phrases I had learned. “Oui Oui Ca Suffit” popped into my mind and was ideal for rhyming purposes. I don’t mean to brag but I may have a record deal before I leave here. Our friend, Ashley, has an amazing voice and writes her own music. We had asked the band if she could sing a little later. After much convincing that she sounded nothing like the blonde, the band brought her up and she was so good! It was one of my favorite nights in Paris and we all had such a great time together!
Wednesday morning was a bit of a struggle after our night out but we needed to push through our exhaustion in order to take part in the first day of shopping sales! The scene downtown reminded me of a movie. Music in the background, multiple shopping bags in hand, crowds everywhere…it was music to my ears. It was comparable to Black Friday. I had made a purchase for Doll as well as a satchel for myself. Despite my love for shopping, it was a bit frustrating with the congestion of people and mess of clothes, shoes and accessories that had enveloped the floor.
Wednesday night could have been way more exciting but I was obligated to writing my “Leadership Manifesto” for my management class. It was aimed to be a guideline for our next five years and what we have planned for our professional careers. Some of the questions were, “How do you wish to be perceived,” “If you were walking down the hall, what would you want people to think of you?” Personally, I want to be perceived as fun, stylish, outgoing, the list continues. But for the purpose of the assignment I wrote something like “ethical,” “professional,” and some other nonsense. I was going to ask Kathryn to write it but I think she might be busy with her real, adult job?
Thursday I went to “Breakfast in America” with Taylor and three of the boys. I ordered hot chocolate with a breakfast burrito. It was pretty good! We had class and then headed around that area to do some more shopping. I found a red sweater and a black leather jacket (both on sale) from ZARA. (If I continue shopping, I might be outside metro 1 beggin’ for a euro.)
Some of the group was leaving for Venice for the weekend, so we said our “au revoirs” and got ready for our night out. There were about eight of us staying the weekend as well as some had friends visiting. We were pulling an all-nighter again and heading to the nightclub “Duplex.” Thursday night is student night; however, we arrived too late so had to pay a cover. I chose the 20 Euro option, cover into the club with 2 drinks (should I switch to a finance major?). We danced the entire night. On our way out of the club, we passed the Arc de Triomphe and stopped for a quick photo shoot.
Friday morning we woke up around 11 and headed to do some sight seeing. We sat on the lawn by the Eiffel Tower and then headed to the Arc de Triomphe to climb and take pictures at the top. It was absolutely beautiful and there wasn’t a cloud in the sky! (So happy since the weather hasn’t been very nice!)
Friday night I went to dinner with my roommate, Shannon, and her two friends visiting for the weekend. We had a great meal at the café on Didot. Following dinner we headed to Bar 10 (a bar recommended by Patrick’s neighbor). It was a bit tough to find due to the size of the bar but we arrived and had a seat. It had great sangria and the atmosphere was perfect. It truly was an authentic Parisian bar and a great place to go with a group of friends!
Saturday we went back to the Louvre. I probably won’t need to go to another museum in my life after this trip! Once I saw the Mona Lisa, the next work of art I was aimed to see was a Chai Tea Latte from Starbucks. Don’t judge me, it’s just not my thing. We took Shannon’s friends shopping after the Louvre and I purchased a gorgeous clutch!
Saturday night we decided to go to a bar called, “Footsie.” It is a Wall Street bar and prices fluctuate depending on the stock market. I had told some of the group the day before how I presented an article in my high school class about Dow Jones thinking it was a person. They had a good laugh and the joke became would we see Dow out that night? I spotted Dow at the bar, we talked numbers and he bought me a drink. Anyway, we all enjoyed the bar and had a nice night!
Sunday we woke up bright and early and caught a train to Normandy for a day trip! I was so happy I had the opportunity to go. It was a beautiful day! When we arrived in Normandy, we went to a hotel right off of the stop. A French man who was extremely entertaining and could have been a comedian greeted us. He informed us that we would be able to have a private tour for a great price! Our tour guide led us around in a van from one place to the next. She was a bit of a crazy driver and I had wished I had brought my Dramamine. Nevertheless, got us the American cemetery, the museum, the cliff, and two beaches safely. It was a great day and a memory I will have forever!
I woke up Monday exhausted from my weekend’s activities. We had art class in the morning. It was extremely hot Monday with temperatures in the 90s. The metro had a stench even worse than before. I was a bit relieved that I had my presentation to work on so I could avoid the heat. My presentation was an update on Christian Dior. I had a great topic I was interested in so it wasn’t much work! Yashvi, Jen and myself worked on the project so we would be able to climb the Eiffel Tower with everyone at night.
We climbed the Eiffel Tower and it pretty exhausting due to the weather. (Suck it up Regina; you are in Paris climbing the Eiffel Tower, get a fan.) The view was beautiful and we were on the second level when the light show began! Every time I see the Eiffel Tower it is even more spectacular!
Tuesday my group and I prepared for our presentation in the morning. We headed to class and it went well! I am so glad it is over and out of the way! We took part in our usual Tuesday night activity at our favorite spot. Everyone had a relaxed night and we enjoyed one of our last nights going to our favorite bar.
Last night we had tickets to the ballet at Bastille. Five other girls and myself got all dressed up and headed to dinner right by the theatre. The dinner was absolutely delicious; we definitely selected a nice place! Following dinner, we were shocked to find that our ballet had been cancelled to a strike. We were instructed to receive our money back. I was about ready to strike myself. There was nothing we could do but laugh about the occurrence and form new plans for the night. So we got together and headed to hang out by the Seine. It was amazing seeing the Notre Dame lit up and the nightlife by the Seine. We enjoyed each other’s company and had a nice evening.
I cannot believe how quickly my time has passed here! I have learned so much and am so grateful I have had this opportunity. I am very thankful for the friends I have made and the memories we have shared together. Being away from home always reminds me of how much I love my family and friends and appreciate all of their love and support! I can’t wait to see everyone! I would like a sign at the airport for when I return with a runway of rose petals (any color is fine).

Less is more.
This post title is fitting in many ways for my past week in France and my weekend in Barcelona.
The past week was overtaken by school work. We had a midterm in our art class Wednesday and a presentation in our management class on Thursday.
In our Monday art class, we spent the entire three hours in the classroom. The less I paid attention the more I kept thinking about anything and everything else other than French history. Our professor was doing roll call and says "Regina" in her French accent and cannot find me. Once she came across me she says, "Oh there you are. I was looking for the blondest one." My hair color doesn't define me Mary Anne Catherine...I always forget the order of her name and what it actually is. Oh well. I should have paid more attention at the museums rather than taking pictures of stores rather than sculptures. The midterm was a bit of a struggle but hopefully I can buy her a chocolate crossiant and she will boost my grade.
Tuesday was our last management class with our professor teaching the first half of the course. We evaluated a case study that had dealt with a manager deciding whether to race a car or not race a car in a vital race that would effect many aspects of the company. I had made my most brilliant comment yet. The class was in a heated discussion going back and forth about which decision was the best. I raised my hand and quoted the book we have been reading, "On Becoming a Leader" by Warren Bennis. I simply said, "Leaders take risks and managers follow the rules, page 43 in the book." I had made my one and only contribution and the professor said I had made a good point (when he had said that I had completely forgotten what he was even referring to...naturally). The less I say the more of an impact I have when I actually did speak up. Maybe this PR girl can survive in the business world? Lets not jump to conclusions!
Tuesday and Wednesday were devoted to preparing for the project. The group project involved analyzing the movie, Dead Poets Society. In my perspective, the project should have been writing a report on wine tasting or how to get the best deal while shopping in Paris. Who said we were here for school work? My group, which consisted of 5 members, took one character and explained how he evolved throughout the movie and became a leader. Once again, the less we practiced the better we did! Despite some technical difficulties involving printing out our PowerPoint slideshow the presentation went well and we were off to Barcelona for the weekend!
We took a bus to the airport and stopped in a cafe before checking in. I ordered the French version of a grilled cheese that has ham inside. It is made with Swiss cheese and I wouldn't order it again but at least I tried it! I made it through security after I was patted down by a French woman. I wanted to tell her to watch her hand but once again I didn't know the French words. The flight was delayed a bit but it was a short trip.
I was so impressed with how little I had packed, it is the best I have ever done. We arrived at the Yellow Nest Hostel around midnight to be greeted by Tiago, a Spanish man associated with the hostel who takes guests out. "Want to go out tonight for 10 euros?" Our response, "Sure, why not!" Next thing I knew my bag was put away in my room and we were on our way out. Tiago had about 35 of us staying at the hostel following him for our night out. Where is he taking us? Why did we say yes? Where is this bus going? We were making jokes about this but it was completely fine. He was really nice and was looking to show everyone a good time in Barcelona. We went to a pub and then tried to go to a club but the 10 euros we paid Tiago couldn't get us in since it was a 15 euro cover. Thanks a lot Tiago, I want my money back immediately or I am throwing you into the Mediterranean. He did give us our money back the next morning after I had threatened him in Spanish...just kidding but seriously.
I was loving Spain and so happy I finally knew how to communicate. The 3 years and 2 semesters of Spanish had finally paid off!
Friday morning we woke up and headed to the beach to be welcomed by numerous topless women and men prancing around in booty shorts also known as speedos. Less clothing worn by more people. We stuck out being fully covered but that was one custom we were not going to try out! After the first hour it suddenly was completely normal that everyone from little girls to saggy old women to not have a top on and think nothing of it. I wished I had brought my TUMS since I was getting a bit nautious. We spent the day lounging on the beach. The sand is so much different that what I am used to. The water was very nice and refreshing.
Friday night we went to a mexican restaurant and it was delicious! I had nachos, fajitas and a pretty strong margarita! Es muy delicioso! Following dinner the girls came back to our hostel room (all 10 of us girls shared a room) and got ready for a night out. We went to a bar that had 500 different "themed" shots for 2 euros. Don't worry doll the alcohol content was not much in the drinks! At the bar we got a free pass to a club called Otto's. We headed to the club at around 2 a.m. For the next 4 hours we danced and danced and danced. It was one of the most fun nights I have had in Europe so far. The DJ was great and played really good music. We danced in a tight group to avoid some creepy Spanish men that clearly cannot take a hint. We took over a platform in the middle of the club and danced the night away.
After about 4 hours of sleep we woke up for the beach on Saturday morning. We spent a few hours on the beach before we got some lunch at a beach bar. All the girls got either a strawberry margarita or mango margarita and I had nachos for my meal. It was so good! We headed back to the beach and relaxed for a few more hours.
Saturday night we headed out to a nice dinner in downtown Barcelona. Jamal, a 20-year-old gorgeous German boy, was staying at our hostel and came to dinner with us. He graduated high school a year ago and just spent the last year serving the army or doing some sort of social work (it is required for German boys to do that following high school). He is traveling for a month by himself around Europe and simply asked if he could accomany us to dinner. Yes please! He sat at my table which consisted of him having a question and answer session with 6 American girls. Somehow American states came up and he said he knew most of them but doesn't know where they are. I said, "Yeah, neither do I." He definitely thought I was intelligent. I also made sure to ask him about the e coli situation. He told me there were only a few cases in Germany and I would be okay. So I went ahead and ordered the grilled chicken with vegetables since I practically just received confirmation that it was okay from the German embassy. We had sangria with our meal and it was really good! Following dinner we split a brownie and cake for dessert.
This morning we left to leave for the aiport at 5 a.m. We were all exhausted but it was a great trip and we all had so much fun!!
Now it is time to rest up and enjoy the last two weeks here!!
The past week was overtaken by school work. We had a midterm in our art class Wednesday and a presentation in our management class on Thursday.
In our Monday art class, we spent the entire three hours in the classroom. The less I paid attention the more I kept thinking about anything and everything else other than French history. Our professor was doing roll call and says "Regina" in her French accent and cannot find me. Once she came across me she says, "Oh there you are. I was looking for the blondest one." My hair color doesn't define me Mary Anne Catherine...I always forget the order of her name and what it actually is. Oh well. I should have paid more attention at the museums rather than taking pictures of stores rather than sculptures. The midterm was a bit of a struggle but hopefully I can buy her a chocolate crossiant and she will boost my grade.
Tuesday was our last management class with our professor teaching the first half of the course. We evaluated a case study that had dealt with a manager deciding whether to race a car or not race a car in a vital race that would effect many aspects of the company. I had made my most brilliant comment yet. The class was in a heated discussion going back and forth about which decision was the best. I raised my hand and quoted the book we have been reading, "On Becoming a Leader" by Warren Bennis. I simply said, "Leaders take risks and managers follow the rules, page 43 in the book." I had made my one and only contribution and the professor said I had made a good point (when he had said that I had completely forgotten what he was even referring to...naturally). The less I say the more of an impact I have when I actually did speak up. Maybe this PR girl can survive in the business world? Lets not jump to conclusions!
Tuesday and Wednesday were devoted to preparing for the project. The group project involved analyzing the movie, Dead Poets Society. In my perspective, the project should have been writing a report on wine tasting or how to get the best deal while shopping in Paris. Who said we were here for school work? My group, which consisted of 5 members, took one character and explained how he evolved throughout the movie and became a leader. Once again, the less we practiced the better we did! Despite some technical difficulties involving printing out our PowerPoint slideshow the presentation went well and we were off to Barcelona for the weekend!
We took a bus to the airport and stopped in a cafe before checking in. I ordered the French version of a grilled cheese that has ham inside. It is made with Swiss cheese and I wouldn't order it again but at least I tried it! I made it through security after I was patted down by a French woman. I wanted to tell her to watch her hand but once again I didn't know the French words. The flight was delayed a bit but it was a short trip.
I was so impressed with how little I had packed, it is the best I have ever done. We arrived at the Yellow Nest Hostel around midnight to be greeted by Tiago, a Spanish man associated with the hostel who takes guests out. "Want to go out tonight for 10 euros?" Our response, "Sure, why not!" Next thing I knew my bag was put away in my room and we were on our way out. Tiago had about 35 of us staying at the hostel following him for our night out. Where is he taking us? Why did we say yes? Where is this bus going? We were making jokes about this but it was completely fine. He was really nice and was looking to show everyone a good time in Barcelona. We went to a pub and then tried to go to a club but the 10 euros we paid Tiago couldn't get us in since it was a 15 euro cover. Thanks a lot Tiago, I want my money back immediately or I am throwing you into the Mediterranean. He did give us our money back the next morning after I had threatened him in Spanish...just kidding but seriously.
I was loving Spain and so happy I finally knew how to communicate. The 3 years and 2 semesters of Spanish had finally paid off!
Friday morning we woke up and headed to the beach to be welcomed by numerous topless women and men prancing around in booty shorts also known as speedos. Less clothing worn by more people. We stuck out being fully covered but that was one custom we were not going to try out! After the first hour it suddenly was completely normal that everyone from little girls to saggy old women to not have a top on and think nothing of it. I wished I had brought my TUMS since I was getting a bit nautious. We spent the day lounging on the beach. The sand is so much different that what I am used to. The water was very nice and refreshing.
Friday night we went to a mexican restaurant and it was delicious! I had nachos, fajitas and a pretty strong margarita! Es muy delicioso! Following dinner the girls came back to our hostel room (all 10 of us girls shared a room) and got ready for a night out. We went to a bar that had 500 different "themed" shots for 2 euros. Don't worry doll the alcohol content was not much in the drinks! At the bar we got a free pass to a club called Otto's. We headed to the club at around 2 a.m. For the next 4 hours we danced and danced and danced. It was one of the most fun nights I have had in Europe so far. The DJ was great and played really good music. We danced in a tight group to avoid some creepy Spanish men that clearly cannot take a hint. We took over a platform in the middle of the club and danced the night away.
After about 4 hours of sleep we woke up for the beach on Saturday morning. We spent a few hours on the beach before we got some lunch at a beach bar. All the girls got either a strawberry margarita or mango margarita and I had nachos for my meal. It was so good! We headed back to the beach and relaxed for a few more hours.
Saturday night we headed out to a nice dinner in downtown Barcelona. Jamal, a 20-year-old gorgeous German boy, was staying at our hostel and came to dinner with us. 10 Things Paris Could Improve On...
From my perspective, there are a few things that Paris could use. Although I have loved my time here so far I do believe there is some room for improvement. So instead of reading for my midterm right now or working on my project I am going to compose a list of 10 items Paris should take into consideration.
1.Many cafes open for dinner at around 7 or 7:30. I may be hungry before then, so you will and better serve me.
2. In Paris, I am considered a "skank" if I wear anything too revealing. However, many women in Paris (including my art professor) do not wear a bra. In the event she has worn a bra, it has been seen outside of her shirt-->black lace. I am not the skank, my friend. I hope to put a Victoria's Secret at the Champs Elysees and encourage all Parisian women to make a purchase.
3. Another vital purchase: tweezers. I sat across from a man on the metro today and it was comparable to looking at a bush. I know I have been directed not to stare or make eye contact but this was necessary to analyze.
4. Purchase number 3: DEODORANT! You will see how far one stick can get you! IMPORTANT: Carry a travel size as the stench becomes increasingly worse throughout the day.
5. No I don't want butter on my ham sandwich.
6. What's with the museums?

That is Enough France!
The time is passing by so quickly and every week is full of new things to do!
Last Sunday after I posted, Gabi, Lauren, Shannon and me went for a run. Besides all of the stares it was pretty cool going for a run in Paris! When we returned home, we headed to the Laundromat to do our first rounds of laundry. After making fools of ourselves trying to talk to the Parisian man that worked there, we realized there actually was a sign of directions in English…oops. Despite some of my clothes being dyed that I will now have to bleach, it wasn’t that hard and worked out pretty well. Sunday night we went out to dinner to an Indian restaurant; I can’t believe I am trying all of these new foods! I got a rice and chicken dish with the bread called, “nan”.
We woke up Monday morning to a rainy day and headed to our art class. We walked around for a bit and then headed to the Louvre. Following class, Lauren, Shannon, Ashley and I went to lunch at a delicious café right next to “Hotel Regina”! A doorman was sitting at the bar having lunch with a “Regina” trench coat on so I decided to creepily take a picture of him from my table. Who knew I was so famous? After lunch we headed to the Place de la Concorde! I picked up a few presents and enjoyed seeing all of the different shops. Paris has so many areas to shop; it is absolutely great!! We hung in Monday night due to our class time change that was rescheduled for 9:30 Tuesday morning!
After class Tuesday, we came back to the hotel and watched “Dead Poet’s Society.” Analyzing the movie and presenting a presentation to our management professor regarding the topic of leadership will be our final project for his term of the class.
I thought Tuesday I would be saving myself some money by making dinner. I picked up some minestrone soup at the market and went to go get a baguette to have with the soup. However, I got completely ripped off! The cashier charged me 6.15 euro for a baguette that is actually .90 euro to every other customer in Paris. When I looked at the amount on the cash register (since I clearly didn’t understand the amount in French) I was confused but looked at the large size of the baguette and figured it was the correct price. I was discriminated against. Currently I am looking up curse words in my French dictionary in hopes I can put them to use to the man who took advantage of the dumb American with blonde hair! How rude!
Tuesday continued to get worse. As I was getting ready to go out for Tuesday night to The Frog and Princess, my curling iron broke. The wattage must have been too strong and blew out. This nearly brought me to tears since my curling iron is so vital to my life. Now my hair will be dull and boring. In France, demonstrations (sort of like strikes or protests) happen often. So I decided I would start a demonstration after Tuesday protesting my baguette and curling iron titled, “That is enough out of you, France!”
Wednesday we were scheduled to meet our art teacher at the Louvre and spent most of our class time there. After the Louvre, we went to the Catacombes. Basically it is underground with piles and piles of bones and skulls that have been stored there. It was pretty weird; thankfully it was only 4 Euros! Wednesday night we went to a bar and for the majority it was people our age! Our friend, Billy, recommended the place and it is one of the cheapest bars so we were all happy about that!
Thursday morning we were finally able to sleep in and headed to Breakfast in America before class! We were all so excited to have some American food. I got eggs, home fries and toast. It was pretty good but the service was not so good. After breakfast we hopped on the metro to get to class. Class was pretty interesting on Thursday. We were doing a case study on the Ford Pinto Fires and discussing organizational learning and knowledge, corporate social responsibility and ethical decision-making. After a long discussion our professor, Denny Gioia, had revealed to us that he was the recall coordinator. Following our break, he allowed us to ask him whatever questions we had. It was pretty interesting that he was involved in such a big case and we had the ability to hear what had happened. After class some of us went shopping at the Champs Elysees. The H & M was huge and I could have probably spent a weekend in there. I picked up two blazers and a shirt!
Friday some of the girls went to go see, “Midnight in Paris.” It was a pretty good movie despite my quick nap I took in the middle of it! After the movie we went to the Galeries Lafayette, which is a mall right by the theatre. With all of the rainy days we just had to continue shopping! I got a pair of camel colored boots and have already worn them twice! Friday night some of us headed to The Lizard Lounge. It was a smaller group and we had a good time!
Saturday we went to a festival, which is similar to a craft show. There are many vendors set up selling paintings, jewelry, etc. We then went to purchase tickets to see a ballet for June 29th! It was only 10 Euros so we figured why not! We strolled around in Bastille and then hopped on the metro to get some ice cream in Berthillon. The ice cream was amazing but wasn’t ideal timing since the weather was very chilly and some people had their winter jackets on! We went to a café for dinner and then headed home.
Last night we went to a club. It was interesting. Clubs don’t get crowded until around 1 or 2 so we decided we would experience it. We left for the metro around 12:30 and the night began. It was a little expensive, the cover was 15 Euros and the drinks were somewhat usual. Some people at the club were a bit strange or were dancing as if something had taken over their body. My personal favorite was seeing men dancing alone as if no one was watching. I got a few good laughs. We stayed out until 5:30 and took the first metro back. It was funny getting off the metro and the sun being out.
Now I am headed to work with my group on our project…I don’t understand why we have to do all this work!

The Fun Continues
I have been so busy! I try to post as much as I can but there aren’t enough hours in the day!
Thursday morning the girls went to go see The Hangover 2 at a theatre right by class. In France the movie is called “Very Bad Trip 2”. It was really funny and nice to relax right before class. I am more comfortable in class and the professor is really nice. He teaches grad students as well as Ph.D. students; we are lucky to have him!
Thursday night we headed to the Eiffel Tower with some blankets and wine! It was so pretty seeing the Eiffel Tower lit up. However, the vendors trying to sell souvenirs were almost annoying as a bee. It was absolutely hilarious seeing them sprint when a cop on a bike began to ride through and chase after them. We headed home around 11:00 because we had a big day ahead of us.
Friday morning we had to meet our program directors at a metro stop at 8:30, way too early. From there we took a bus to Fontainebleau and saw the château and garden. It was really pretty but extremely hot. It also wasn’t helping that there was a good amount of wind and I wore a dress. I think the little European school kids were laughing at me but they got a free anatomy lesson, you are welcome. When we were done with the first château we had a three-course meal at a nearby restaurant. It was delicious! The meal started out with a salad that had tomatoes, green beans and carrots. The next part I couldn’t believe I liked/ate. I ate duck. It wasn’t that bad once I got over hearing quacking noises in my head. We finished the meal with profiteroles and espresso. We were all so stuffed. We got back on the bus and headed toward the second château. The second one wasn’t as impressive on the inside but the outside was amazing. By the end of the day we were châteaued out. The entire group slept on the way home and we got ready for the night out. However, it was the biggest fail ever. The club we wanted to go to didn’t open until 1 and the cover was 13 Euros.
Saturday we slept in a bit and Gabi, Shannon, Lauren, Ashley, Taylor and me headed to Montmarte, the highest point in Paris. At the top there was a church we went into and it was so pretty inside. We shopped around for a bit and headed down to the Moulin Rouge. It was pretty sketchy on the walk there and men here really don’t respect women at all. The key is to not look at anyone and never smile. We took a few quick pictures in front of the Moulin Rouge and then hopped back on the metro. The modes of transportation are so hot and smelly. On the way getting on to the metro, I saw three police pin up an Italian guy on the wall. It was killing me I didn’t know what he did but I thought I would let the fuzz take care of it. We continued to shop around in a very nice area where we couldn’t really afford anything. (If anyone would like to send the child a check I will bring you back a souvenir!...just kidding but seriously) We got dinner and drinks at The Frog and the Princess. The waitresses remembered us and we chatted with them a bit.
When we got home we were exhausted but began to look up some possible bars to go to for the night. Lauren found a bar in her Paris book and it is one of the 10 best bars in Paris and by the end of the night we knew why. The bar was called “Coolin” and it was Irish, perfect! I went to the bar and ordered a Carlsberg but they didn’t have it last night so I got a Kronenbourg, it was just as good. Two boys from London started talking to me and Shannon and they bought us a drink (don’t worry Doll I literally went to the bar and grabbed it myself from the bartender, I didn’t want to spend another 7.40 euro for a brew-ha-ha). The bar was a little slow at the beginning but then the DJ put on “Getting Jiggy With It” and our group got up immediately. Next thing we knew the entire bar was dancing to the Spice Girls, Beyonce’s “Single Ladies” and Lady Gaga. It was one of the best nights so far and we all had so much fun!
I am so happy I came on this trip. I love everyone in the group. There are so many personalities, backgrounds and interests. I can’t believe it has already been almost two weeks! I am having a great time and am excited for what is to come ☺

Two boys from London started talking to me and Shannon and they bought us a drink (don’t worry Doll I literally went to the bar and grabbed it myself from the bartender, I didn’t want to spend another 7.40 euro for a brew-ha-ha). The bar was a little slow at the beginning but then the DJ put on “Getting Jiggy With It” and our group got up immediately. Next thing we knew the entire bar was dancing to the Spice Girls, Beyonce’s “Single Ladies” and Lady Gaga. It was one of the best nights so far and we all had so much fun!
I am so happy I came on this trip. I love everyone in the group. There are so many personalities, backgrounds and interests. I can’t believe it has already been almost two weeks! I am having a great time and am excited for what is to come ☺

Sil vous plait vs por favor
Since the day spent at Versailles we were all exhausted at our first art class Monday morning. I guess it wasn't a good idea that me and some of the other girls stayed up extra late talking!
We got up Monday morning and had to be at our classroom by 9:30 for art and architecture. We met our professor and she is extremely passionate about French history as well as very blunt. We only really spend an hour inside the classroom and the rest of the time is visiting different sights, museums and topics we are learning about. However, on the streets she moves at a quick pace and probably wouldn't even wait for Napoleon if he were in my program. She had us walking everywhere on Monday! Is this going to count for my health education credits at PSU? Will my jean size at least decrease after this trip? I don't know but regardless pass me on over another baguette sil vous plait (that means please...duhhh). We went to a cafe after class and it was pretty good but the waitress was pretty frustrated with our (when I say our I mean me) French. Following lunch we went to some shops located on that street where a store owner called out to me "Heeey Miss California!" Watch it buddy or I will show you that it is not the sunshine state. Going in and out of the stores is absolutely perfect for me! I only tried on one dress because if not I might have bought everything I saw and loved, which was everything. Would someone mind putting my application in anywhere for when I return, McDonald's, Wendy's, BK Lounge, Philadelphia Zoo?
Tuesday I slept in! I really miss my sleep. Eventually I did have to drag myself out of bed and begin the readings for management class that day. Management class is going well so far other than I don't participate that often. The professor said, "Regina, what do you think?" In my head I thought, "You know what do I think?"
The group is extremely intelligent and well-traveled. However, have you seen my chateau at the Jersey Beach? I went to The Franklin Institute in the fourth grade. I live where the founding fathers wrote the um...constitution? (I know it was the constitution but I am not going to bother googling other information). I am just kidding but I really am impressed with everyone's intelligence and interest in learning more!
After class we went shopping, again. I bought a red leather cropped jacked for 30 euros! It was a great find and goes perfectly with my bag from Versailles! Last night we went back out for drinks at the Frog and the Princess and I took home a coaster with me! We all had a nice time singing along to the American music and being all together!
Today we had art class once again and saw the ruins of Notre Dame. We didn't go inside the Church but certainly will another day! Following class we got some lunch and headed home. We tried to go to the French Open but it was sold out, complete bummer! So here I am writing and putting off reading the case study for tomorrow's management class.
We booked a trip to Barcelona for the weekend of June 16th, ah so excited! I am really looking forward to that!
Obviously today is the second anniversary for my dad. I miss him every day but I know he would want me to be happy. I wouldn't be here without him and I appreciate everything he has done for me and my family. My dad's passing has helped me grow as a person and has created stronger bonds between my family and friends. So here is to my dad and the great life he lead!

So many activities...
So much has happened since the last post! The days are packed and very exhausting.
Thursday night we went out to a bar called The Frog and Princess. It was mostly an American bar but there were some locals. It wasn't too crowded which was nice so we just had some drinks and danced. It was pretty funny hearing The Jackson 5 and other American songs at a bar in France.
Friday we were finally able to sleep in a bit and had to meet at the Musee d'Orsay, a museum full with paintings of Van Gogh, Monet and other people I didn't know nor care. It was pretty boring and the tour guide's voice would be perfect to put me to sleep at night. I was people watching and observing what they were wearing (we got in free with our student card so I didn't waste money, looking out for you Doll). That night we went to an Australian bar called Cafe Oz. It was so fun. There is a whole deck outside and inside there is a dance floor. We all had a lot of fun.
Saturday we were headed to the Luxembourg Garden which was so beautiful. It is definitely popular on the weekends with families and couples to go for the day. There was a jungle gym, basketball and tennis courts, ping pong tables, picnics, and food. I got a chocolate ice cream cone and it was delicious! After we just sat around on the lounge chairs as many other Parisians were doing. I just copy them and try to fit in. It isn't working all too well. Right now I know about 10 words and my Philly accent isn't helping. Last night when I ordered my drink I said "Fosters por favor." Could I have sounded more like an idiot? Definitely because I have said worse things.
Yesterday night we got dinner at a cafe right up the block and then got ready for the Australian bar round 2. We got there early but it was packed for the Manchester game. The whole bar sang "We Are The Champion" when the won, I was happy I knew the words.
Today we went to Versailles and saw the palace and garden. We left at 11:30 and didn't get back until almost 7. It was enormous and so beautiful. I got in for free too! A Parisian woman came out and gave me her pass for the day, thanks baby girl I will reimburse you with a baguette...wish I knew that in French. Each garden was different but they were all amazing. I got an enormous amount of sun but I had an umbrella in my bag so I put it up copying the French once again. We went into the store there and I picked up two post cards and a purse that I love! It has rose embroidery and is very pretty...I guess most people would buy something else that would be memorable of the things they saw at Versailles but why would I do that?
The group is getting along really well and I am really happy I decided to come on this trip. I am excited to be with them when we are back at Penn State!
As for the food, it has been very good so far but I have had to perfect saying "No cheese!" Twice I have ordered something and got something different but I did like what I supposedly ordered. As for the French, some could use my Juicy perfume and a shower or two wouldn't hurt. I love all the fashion and seeing what the women are wearing. They always look so classy.
I found out the French phrase I made up a few years ago (Ju de se play voo..my own spelling obviously) means nothing in French! I am just going to continue to make up whatever comes to my head or form a sentence with the words I know. The group is so good with directions which is really nice because there is about a million different ways to go everywhere on a million different transportation modes. I am just the child following everyone and listening to what I am told.
We have our first art class tomorrow so we will see how that goes. I am sure it will be interesting but it is three hours long so it better have my attention.
I will be checking in again soon :)

Bonjour!
Hello everyone :)
After a tearful goodbye with Doll, Aunt Dede and Vicky I made it to my terminal where I watched a couple all over each other (save it for the Eiffel Tower) as well as a French girl asked me to watch her luggage (idiot). I made it onto the plane but could not lift my carry-on over my head so a French boy kindly helped me. The 7 hour flight was not exactly the most comfortable but I managed and finally arrived in Paris. We were taking a shuttle as a group so we had to wait a few hours in between the flight and the time we got picked up. In the mean time a man began talking to me in French and I said I didn't speak French. He said, "You came to France and don't speak French?" I thought mind your own business for my motive to come here and come to the melting pot and see how many people don't speak English.
The first day was so exhausting. We had an orientation that I couldn't stay awake for and received our French cell phones. We went to dinner and had a cider that had some liquor in it, a Manhattan which was a meat crepe and a caramel crepe for dinner. It wasn't Doll's cooking but it was pretty good.
My roommates are Gabi and Shannon who will both be juniors. We are all getting along really well so far!
Yesterday we had a second day of orientation. We were told not to make eye contact with anyone and refrain from staring. This will be extremely hard since I have been staring at people and people watching since I was little. If I were to look into a boy's eyes it is an "invitation." So I decided I am going to wear my sunglasses on the metro and anywhere else so I can stare at however many people I want without them thinking I want to date.
The directors from the program said many people when they come to France think the French are rude but really they get nervous to help us out. They aren't confident with their English and don't want to be judged. Our cultures are so different and I am sure I will be experiencing that more and more each day.
After lunch (where I thought I ordered one thing and got another) we left for the boat tour. It was so beautiful! On the way to the boat tour we passed the Eiffel Tower, which was amazing! There were so many people along the river laying out or having a picnic. Following the boat tour we walked around more and came across the Arc Triomphe. We took some pictures there and continued along the way where the shopping came into play. I think I need to contact Aunt Ruth's son with the chateau to hook a girl up with some cash. The stores included Cartier, Louis Vuitton, H & M, Sephora and many more. We took the metro home and had dinner around the corner from our hotel. The waiter was so nice but I better start finishing everything because if you don't finish your meal they think something was wrong with it. I got a salad with marinated chicken and flavored rice, it was really different but good. We split a bottle of pink wine and it was pretty good. Last night we all went to one room and got to know everyone a little better. It is weird because it doesn't get dark until 10 p.m. We keep losing track of time and are fooled by the lighting outside.
Today was our first day of the management and leadership class and I was pretty intimidated. The professor is really nice but I'm not really familiar with all of the business terminology but I will try to make up the best comments I can think of and pray they make some sense.
Tonight we are going to cook in the room (we got some dinner from the market) and then head out to the bar as a group.
